The Parkland Chamber of Commerce's mission is to encompass and promote the well-being of the entire business community within the City of Parkland, while maintaining the City’s residential integrity and enhancing our quality of life.
SOS Children’s Villages Florida (SOS) opened in 1993 to care for children who were removed from their families and placed into foster care in Broward and Palm Beach Counties. Currently, SOS is home for up to 72 foster children from newborn to age eighteen. At SOS, special emphasis is placed on keeping biological siblings together.
We also have our Next Steps program for young adults who have aged out of foster care at age eighteen. This program features individual life coaches, affordable housing support, employment assistance, financial management, education, and a variety of other services designed to provide young adults with the necessary resources for them to go on to build successful lives. Next Steps is open not only to former SOS residents, but for qualifying individuals within the community who have aged out of foster care.
At one of the most difficult times in their young lives, our Village offers a safe, healing, and supportive environment for our community’s foster children in 13 single-family homes with full-time licensed foster parents in a residential neighborhood in Coconut Creek. In addition to safety, security, and stability, we are committed to providing vital support services for our children, to help them deal with their emotions, academic improvement, social skills, and behavior. We are also committed to preparing our children to live independently. The SOS on-site programs include mental health counseling, medical services, entertaining activities, tutoring in reading and math, a mentoring program, and independent life skills classes.
For over 30 years, SOS has helped raise more than 1200 foster children who have grown into healthy, successful, contributing members of our community. Due to our emphasis on education, our children are twice as likely to complete high school, and six times as likely to graduate college than foster children within the general population. For the past fifteen years, 100% of our high school seniors have graduated AND enrolled in college or trade school. Outcomes for which we are most proud and demonstrate the life-changing impact of our support programs.
